Why he brought SDA to Stall High School
Jeremy Carrick knew SDA existed in the Upstate. Bringing it to R.B. Stall High School in Charleston was an easy decision, he says, and the results have gone past what he expected.
He sees it every day: students speaking up for themselves, pushing him for changes at school, and carrying themselves with more confidence. As one cohort follows another across schools and cities, those students form a network of advocates who keep each other going. The mentoring, he says, is a big part of why it works.
“I think in the 10 years that SDA has been in existence, they’ve really laid the foundation and got through a lot of the hard tilling up of new soil. So really, I think the best opportunity is now.”
