In a room of people who looked like her, she started to believe in herself
Briana Garcia joined SDA wanting to go to college and one day run her own business. Her mom had always been the person she counted on.
At 17, what stood out to her most was being around people who looked like her and spoke like her, and finding ways to help her community that she hadn’t expected. SDA made her a stronger leader, she says, and helped her believe in herself.
She wants people to know she’s kind, and that she wants others, especially in the Hispanic community, to feel seen.
“We get told often that we’re not capable of doing something or that something’s just a dream or something’s just out of our reach, but I think that once you are able to get your mind out of that thought process, then that’s where you’re truly able to grow.”
