As our Charleston based Development and Public Relations Associate, Cristina Victor remains steadfast in her devotion to educational equity and local community engagement. As a Cuban-American artist, educator, and education administrator, she draws upon her training in social practice and performance to catalyze storytelling and meaningful cultural exchange.
As a daughter of immigrant parents, born and raised in one the largest Spanish speaking US cities, she cares deeply about creating access and opportunities for her community. Her professional journey has been defined by a deep-seated commitment to uplift first-generation and Latino students through inclusive initiatives and mentorship. She is recognized for founding SASI (Studio Art Summer Immersion Program) at the College of Charleston, the inaugural arts-centric pre-college program in South Carolina, and enjoys advising college bound students, as well as coordinating outreach efforts and executing arts centered public projects. Her recent creative endeavors, SHAPERS ceramics exhibitions, the grant-supported public project, My Story Is My Flag and her Caribbean-inspired ceramics line Sabia Ceramics, continue to showcase her passion for visibility, maximalist expression and community dialogue.
She attended Miami Dade Community College and transferred to Sarah Lawrence College in NY to earn her BA where she studied Latin American history and Contemporary Spanish Literature. She earned her MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute where she focused on performance and social practice. She is a recent recipient of the South Carolina Artists Business Initiative Grant through the South Carolina Arts Commission and the Dean’s Excellence grant through the College of Charleston.
