Student Demographics

As our community grows, it is more important than ever to cultivate an environment that values and supports this diversity.

Greenville County Schools (GCS) is experiencing a vibrant shift in its student population with an increasing number of international students and multilingual learners. As of July 2024, multilingual learners make up 22% of the entire student population, showcasing the county’s evolving diversity. This growth includes students from over 104 different countries, including Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, Honduras, India, Mexico, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

GCS is also home to a rich linguistic tapestry, with 79 languages spoken across the district. Among these, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Vietnamese, Chuj, Portuguese, Mandarin, French, Ukrainian, Telugu, and Japanese are the most widely represented. This diverse linguistic landscape is a testament to the cultural richness that these students and their families contribute to Greenville.

Key Partnerships

The Student DREAMers Alliance is a youth leadership accelerator for Hispanic students, empowering the next generation of South Carolina leaders.

Our responsibility is to our collective future, where all people regardless of ethnicity, background, immigration status or any other label enjoy equal opportunity to live a prosperous life.

With the Hispanic Alliance Network supporting our Student DREAMers Alliance alumni, we are equipping them with the tools, skills, social capital, and resources to change the landscape of our state.

The HA Mission

Collaborating across Cultures to advance Hispanic communities in South Carolina.

The Hispanic Alliance convenes the largest collaborative network working to advance Hispanic communities in the Upstate. Created from and for collaboration, our organization is consistently building a bridge of communication and understanding between Hispanics & the broader community.

With the mission of fostering collaboration and connectivity among people, resources, and cultures to build thriving communities, the Hispanic Alliance envisions a vibrant and inclusive community where everyone has access to opportunities for success and prosperity.

Our organization is nonpartisan and is a faithful advocate for diversity, equality, acceptance, and understanding. Our network advocates particularly for those who have left their countries behind – as well as their families, friends, and culture – to pursue better opportunities for their children, just like previous generations did.
