Event Description

To celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Hispanic Alliance and Upstate International are partnering to bring Upstate residents Más Salsa, a bonus edition of a favorite Greenville event. At Camperdown Plaza on Friday, September 22 at 6pm, the two Greenville-based organizations are celebrating the myriad of Hispanic cultures present in the Upstate with a free event that is open for all to attend.

Más Salsa will begin with a community dance lesson at 6:00 pm with instruction by Pura Alegría Dance Company for anyone looking to knock the dust off their salsa heels or interested in cultivating a little culture by trying something new! Then, at 7:00pm, the iliana Rose Cuban Jazz Band will take the stage at Camperdown Plaza off Broad and Main Street to ignite a vibrant celebration of Hispanic and Latino cultures. Refreshments will be available for all to purchase & enjoy from businesses surrounding Camperdown Plaza throughout the evening.

“We are proud to partner with the Hispanic Alliance to provide the Upstate Community one more edition of Salsa at Sunset,” Tracie Frese, the Executive Director of Upstate International says of the event. “To see our organizations’ values align in a collaborative way makes a powerful statement in our community. The Upsate welcomes all – and we celebrate global diversity at a local level.”

Hispanic Heritage Month is a nationwide celebration held each year from September 15 through October 15 to honor and celebrate the vibrancy of Spanish-speaking cultures within America and the generations of Hispanic Americans who have enriched both culture and society by making contributions in science, education, the arts, and politics. Más Salsa will provide all Upstate residents with the opportunity to join this year’s celebration.

Adela Mendoza, Executive Director of the Hispanic Alliance remarked, “Our organization exists to uplift and elevate Hispanic individuals and share Hispanic culture in Greenville County and beyond. To partner with Upstate International to host a free event at the start of Hispanic Heritage Month is our great privilege, and we invite all to participate in this cross-cultural event!”

Más Salsa begins at Camperdown Plaza in Downtown Greenville on Friday, September 22 at 6:00pm. For more information about the event, please visit HispanicHeritageMonth.com/salsa.
