The mission of the Carolina Literacy Project is to help immigrant and refugee children in South Carolinaincrease their English literacy and reduce summer learning loss. This internship is an opportunity to gain
valuable classroom experience with children of various ages, cultures, and abilities for whom English is
not their first language. It will provide a window into what life in a multilingual (ML) classroom is really
like. You will be trained by ML teachers with many years of experience. There will also be opportunities
to learn about the challenges and rewards of working in a nonprofit environment to enhance and
reinforce the public school system. The ideal candidate will be someone who is majoring or minoring in
education or a related field and would like to work with students at the elementary or middle school level.
Candidates must also successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
